Queen Mother celebrates 85th birthday

The Queen Mother Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho during the Garden Party to celebrates her 85th birthday.

The Queen Mother, Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata’aho was born on the 29th of April, 1926 and she celebrates her 85th birthday for five days, starting on Wednesday last week with a Garden Party at the Residence of the President of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga The Rev. Dr. ‘Ahio and his wife Loukinikini ‘Ahio.

More than 100 women from different Churches and community in Tonga were invited to the ‘Garden Party’, all dressed up in different and beautiful dresses to go along with the ‘International’ theme.

Along with the Queen Mother the guests also includes HRH Princess Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita, Princess Siu’ilikutapu, Hon. Frederica Tuita and Hon. Salote Maumautaimi Tuku’aho.

On Thursday 26th the Queen Mother attended a Catholic Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral at Ma’ufanga, where she was joined by His Majesty King George Tupou V.

On Friday 27th the Ministry of Education, Women Affairs and Culture marked this Special Day starting with a grand march of the Primary School from Pangai Lahi to Teufaiva Park. At Teufaiva, Secondary Schools present The Queen Mother with gifts, and then went on to perform traditional dances.

A private function for the families only was held on Saturday 28th at Ha’avakatolo, and on Sunday the Queen Mother attended a birthday church service at the Centennial Church followed by a Royal Luncheon at the Royal Palace in Nuku’alofa.
